Thanks gaurav97, I do usually use WP Super Cache, but actually have had it turned off while making some changes. I flushed it anyway but the problem is persisting.

I tried that code and as you say it removes the widget entirely. However, when I place another category widget in it’s place, it doesn’t show up. What I’m wanting to do, is have a list of all my categories which when clicked on show a search results page with all the posts in that category.

I will ask them now to see what they say. As the plugin seemed to work with other themes, I assumed it would be a theme issue.

However, I’ve tried adding some test blogs to the normal blog section and the categories are not working for that either.

Are you referring to the Categories plugin? It’s the one that is already installed in WP, without having to add it separately.

I tried what you suggested and with the Twenty Twelve theme the widget worked in the sense that it displayed the category where I have a post assigned to it (I’ve just assigned one post to one category as a test for now). However, when I clicked on the category name, it said “apologies but there are currently no posts in this category”. So, in summary, changing the theme seemed to fix half the problem.

Any more help you can provide would be great.

Thanks for the reply Sami. I have downloaded the child theme but until have not used it. To be honest, I’m not really sure what I’m doing so will read all the documentation. If I understand correctly, if I now install the child theme after having added widgets etc to the parent theme, I would have to add all of these gain manually and the logo and any other changes? Do you know of a way to export everything to the child theme?

Thanks, but I’m not really sure what I’m looking for and anything I touch in Firebug seems to destroy the page. I was hoping the theme author could just point me in the right direction to find the CSS I would need to edit.

I agree that some kind of menu control would make this theme even better. For example, the logo by default is under the menu, which is rarely seen on websites. It would be good to have the option to 1) move the menu under the logo or 2) have the option to add a secondary menu that appears under the logo. This way, the primary top menu could be used for the main topics and upon clicking on each topic, a row of sub menus could appear under the logo. Plugins don’t really get this same native effect.

Ok, it turns out this what a bit of human error on my part. I had inserted some code and had deleted the closing “” tags. Resolved.

Changing the shortcode to [easytable] as recommended worked perfectly! It must have been a conflict with another table plugin I have as you said.
