In reply to: Solution to media folders?@andrew Haven’t really found anything yet. Over few years I’ve done numerous researches on this topic testing lots and lots of plugins without working results. Haven’t finished testing what have been made/updated this year yet and “WP Media Folder” seems like a good candidate, at least regarding UI part, though commercial.
However ideally folders should be physical, which made me think that “a switch” to bypass media manager abstraction layer and link images as external files would be maintenance free once and for all solution. Thumbs etc. becomes a problem of the user, but priorities differ and thumbs are easier to solve.
@leejosepho Mainly images, but yup, that’s the idea. Probably won’t be a problem to filter image links into images. But do you copy links manually? It’s ok for a file, but not so much when there is more of them.

In reply to: [Contact Form Clean and Simple] Customize textsActually, I wanted to change some texts and remove some altogether, like what’s inside text fields initially. Also the way translation is handled in my case is – all languages are in the same field, separated by shortcodes, which has proven to be quite handy.
Thanks anyway ??Forum: Requests and Feedback

In reply to: The WP Media Manager is Absolutely TerribleSure, we all are people and what is requested takes a lot of effort that can’t be proven as worth-it until someone actually tries it, but making the “decision” and closing the conversation so it’s not public how many are for it is a very characteristic dictatorship trait.
Such system demonizes the deciding end in eyes of discussion participants and creates a sense of conspiracy of some sort.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Firelight Lightbox] Auto detect case sensitiveI sometimes use ftp to upload, plus the source might be outside site.
But I guess you are right – upper case should be defined explicitly for performance then.
Though it still better be mentioned somewhere ??Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Folders in media library, againGreat – the idea topic was closed because “This topic already exists.”, while the original one is closed too. What a nice way to “ask” to shut up.

In reply to: The WP Media Manager is Absolutely TerribleI guess the categorical opinions come from fact, that people invest time going wordpress, thinking of such feature as obvious must-have. And though I don’t think WordPress developers owe anything to anyone, I do agree with most of what is said.
I’m waiting a year already for something decent to appear regarding media management. Now I have to decide what I’ll use. It seems people grasp the problem as some half-decent plugins begin to appear, but using plugins for basic functionality is quite destructive for system. You won’t get the devil back once it’s out. If WordPress will be only a brand and functionality will be elsewhere, the title will go to someone else sooner or later. Someone will put together an out-of-the-box working solution thus eventually forking the idea of WordPress. No jingle of simplicity and stylish backend will save it then.
Anyway – perhaps not perfect, but anyone is free to comment:
