add-on site (forbidden error): magicalunderground.comForum: Networking WordPress
In reply to: domain mapping how-to video? Help! :)@cinematic – did you change the A record in Godaddy at all?
and, did you point the godaddy nameserver to your otherhosts shared ip?
Thanks. ??

In reply to: domain mapping how-to video? Help! :)If you are on a shared hosting server you need to register your domain with this hoster. Then you can point the domain to the folder with your multisite install. From an external host it’s not possible to address the shared server via IP.
Hmmm. I figured that even on a shared host, I still had my ip zone for dns settings.
If what u say is accurate cinematic, that’s a major draw back.

In reply to: domain mapping how-to video? Help! :)bout ready to call uncle… and do this the “old fashion way.”
On the MT side, you need to login via ssh and create a symlink.
https://kb.mediatemple.net/questions/63/Pointing+Multiple+Domains+to+the+SamAfter doing this and attempting to map the domain (see below)… within WP, I get a Forbidden 403.
Add new domain
https://newdomain.com/
(checked)Primary domain for this blog[ADD]

In reply to: domain mapping how-to video? Help! :)Yes, don’t use GoDaddy’s parking feature.
Wilco. So under Godaddy’s “set name servers” is shows 4 options:
1. I want to park my domains.
2. I want to forward my domains.
3. I have a hosting account with these domains.
4. I have specific nameservers for my domains.Which should i use?
On the Godaddy side, go into the Total DNS area and make the A record point to the IP address of your MT account.
got it and its looks like this:
Hostname: @
Points to ip Address: 123.456.789.987 (of course not REALLY those #’s)On the MT side, you need to login via ssh and create a symlink.
https://kb.mediatemple.net/questions/63/Pointing+Multiple+Domains+to+the+Same+AlternWorking on that right now. And yep, i’m on the GS.
Mucho, Mucho Thanks

In case this helps any guru’s:
Registrar of the parked domain is GoDaddy
Host of WP 3.0 Multisite is MediaTempleForum: Networking WordPress
In reply to: domain mapping how-to video? Help! :)ok…did as suggested:
So long as the A record for the parked domain, (the one you want to map to parkedSite.mainSite.com), points to the server that has your 3.0 Multisite install, I would expect that your DNS good to go.
notta yet….just goes to a blank page…maybe it takes time.

In reply to: domain mapping how-to video? Help! :)::self helping:: still have a Question.
when it comes to changing the DNS records of the parked domain, the Registrar (godaddy) has these 3 boxes to fill out:
1. Enter an Alias Name ______________
2. Points to Host Name ______________
3. TTL (this one i got!) ::gulp::What the heck to i put in options 1 and 2?
For 1, do i put parkedSite.mainSite.com?
And 2, do i put the mainsite.com? (which is the A record)::pulling hair out:: I’ve attempted to make sense of the slideshow…but it all breaks down for me at this point in the process

In reply to: Can I import multiple standalone blogs into 3.0?Be aware that the export feature in wordpress does not include tables that may have been generated by plugins or themes. It’s the best we have at the moment though.
Super important…i wish the documentation on migration mentioned this specifically.
