    MP4 problem
It starts by saying please wait as normal. Then about 30 seconds into it,

The file is either not a video file or the extension is not supported.
    Currently supported extensions are: video/quicktime, video/avi, video/asf, video/quicktime, video/x-ms-wmv, video/3gpp

One more question, I hope you don’t mind :).

What I was looking for is a means for users to upload files into their own media albums and also in the main activities of buddy press. Is there a way of doing this?
Would I have to edit those pages and add the shortcode?

Should it not allow mp4 and just bypass conversion? It’s not allowing mp4 uploads.

Also, the only allowed means to upload is to allow guests to upload.
Setting guests to not allowed then picking any of the user roles fails allowing anyone to upload.

BTW, I notice in the plugins section that it says not for the current version. I’m running 3.5.1. I’ll install it anyhow as it looks like you’ve been updating it but thought I’d mention it ??

I’ll do that then and make a post somewhere about blog users being able to have this option by contacting me.

I now better understand why you would want to activate it per site but I suppose a network version would also be nice where main settings are controlled by the main site owner.

    Thanks.

In other words, you mean don’t activate it network wide then right? Sorry, just need clarification at times since I’m pretty new to WP.

Oh, one more question since I’ve not seen this anywhere. As the main site is a buddypress and the others are simply blogs, should this plugin be installed network wide or only on the main site.

Correct. It did not make any sense to me to have to purchase another plugin which would allow users to upload video when my servers are always configured for video conversion and compression. Instead, I was hoping to find something which would put to use the many tools, including ffmpeg already installed on the server.

It sounds like your plugin will take advantage of the tools already on the server. I will give it a try then post some feedback.

    Thanks again for the reply.

    Thanks for the reply :).

This is what I am trying to understand. I already have conversion and compression tools on my servers and am looking for something which would allow users to upload video on the site.
I found an addon for BP-media but it seems I already have that since my servers have the tools installed. This is the integrated aspect that you speak of I am assuming.

Either way, it sounds like you are saying that yes, this will allow users to upload video and use the tools already installed on the server.

I guess I should have simply tried it by now.

    Thanks.

So, more than 6 days now. Guess I should be moving on.

Yes, it’s a multisite sub-directory install with the main site being BP and the rest being individual blogs.

What I’m looking for is the same function as when you have a facebook page for example and can Share and Like things back to your own page but in this case, their home page on my WP site.
Other examples include any other social sharing functions back to Digg, and Reddit and other such sites.

What you’ve given me in terms of Press This is good for blog owners, I’m looking for a way for basic users on the site to be able to Share and Like (or what ever we’ll call it) back to our site.

I am quite sure this means programming a full out API or something but I need to gather up information so I can figure out what will be needed.

BTW, I’ve been trying to use that Press This function but it’s only capturing text/links but if I try to insert images, it just sits there doing nothing.

I’ve tried both latest ie and latest firefox and had another person try it also and images didn’t work for them also. Looking at docs on the net, we appear to be doing it as we are supposed to.

    Got it.

So, there is no way to offer something where users can post to their home pages (on my site) in the same way as facebook and other sites do for example?

Unless, as you say, they are the owner of a blog and use Press This for example.

    Interesting.

I just tested that but images aren’t showing up, only the links. Guess I need to do a little more digging but you’ve given me a great lead, thanks.

No, guess I never thought of that. That would work for my own travels but is there a way that I could give that option to others so they could put things on my blog?

I guess you’re saying the answer is social bookmarks, something I’ve overlooked.

Thank you very much for the input!

Maybe I’m not explaining this correctly?

What I am looking for is when I (or others?) am visiting other sites, I’d like to share some of the things I see, but not on FB, not on Twitter, but on my own blog.

    How could this be done?

Ok, I’ll wait patiently and maybe someone will reply ??
