I was new when I posted this, I better understand now. Since I can’t delete the question, I have listed it as resolved since there are no other options.

Now that I’ve spent more time with WPMU, I am starting to better understand it. My question has been partially answered in another thread but not fully.

The answer was ‘why would you want to do that, it would be overly complex’ and at first, I was thinking this is very true.

However. I’m no longer sure this is true. It appears that it would be rather simple for the two to coexist but it is still not clear to me.

I understand that I can install Network plugins and have them network wide or site specific but what is not clear is how these would affect sub-domain users.
Could sub-domains exist connected to the main site while not really requiring to be part of the main site user base? Sub-domain owners would probably not care to be part of any other community and could always create an account on the main site should they want to.

I am trying to reach anyone who might be doing both.

As I mentioned, I’m not having this problem.

All I can think of is make sure that you have installed the plugin as a network since you are running network. It should show up in the network menu. If not, I don’t really know much else about it yet.

I too have been trying to get help for some basic anomalies.

I’ve been around forums since they first started so understand about not generally being deleted. However, I also know they just mean garbage if they don’t have any value.

I would be happy to supply a mod with the topics I created which are redundant and which really should be deleted. If you don’t care, then that if fine with me also ??

    Thanks.

I would certainly prefer this over a plugin. However, the plugin also does some very interesting things that I love.

I found WpMuBar, a plugin which lists all of the blogs on the site by simply checking them in the config, has a nice logo area which users can click on to get to the main site, and even some social icons to boot.

If I could find a way of doing this ourselves, that would be very cool considering the author isn’t responding to anything so far. It is the holidays of course.

I too purchased this and can’t reach them. They mention forums but I’ve yet to find them so have been trying to contact them.

As for your question, I’m assuming you added the sites which already existed after you installed this? Go to it’s config and make sure they are added.

I had it installed like any other plugin. I need to start looking at the install notes from now on.

I deleted the plugin, downloaded the one you showed me, placed it when you said and it shows up as it should.

One thing I’ve been trying to figure out is why blog owners are able to see other blogs in the My Sites but worse, they can see all of the users and their emails.

I found the perfect tool, a plugin called wpmubar. However, no reply to my email after purchase so not sure they are actively updating it. It is the holidays mind you so we’ll see what happens.

I’ll still have my design partner look at this thread and see if this might be easier. I’d like something we can maintain and not have to count on an author who won’t be updating.

Turns out, that’s normal for plugins that go into the mu-plugins directory. One thing that is still not clear however is that some people say that directory goes into the wp-content directory and others say it goes into the wp-content\plugins directory.

Actually, what I need is to simply hide all other sites that blog owners don’t have admin access to. Seems silly to have them seeing all of the other blogs.

Plus, they need a return back to the main site which isn’t that clear to most.

I’m not saying I give up, I’m saying in the interest of continuing to work on the site, I have hard coded for now.
I’ll get back on the code in a few days to a week and see if I can get that working. Looking at each theme, I noticed that many are different even though they are all Elegant themes.

As for domain/directory, I found a post from some others looking for the same thing and added to that thread for some input.
I did a little testing and it seemed to work but it might not be worth the trouble as you mention.

Worse comes to worse, I have to run another server, no big deal.

    Thanks.

For now, I just hard coded all of the themes but once the site is up, I’ll keep this environment for dev so can better test then.

Also, I’ll have to get my designer on this thread because she is more into css and other things such as that.

What we’d love to have is a tiny logo on the top and a small banner at the bottom of each subdomain and subdirectory site.

Which actually brings me to the next post I’ll be making or have, asking if both can co-exist on the same network install.
