Never was able to get this fixed, so I reluctantly opted for the paid version. I must say, I’m glad I did – much more stable than this free plugin, and their support staff is on point. I was able to build out the directory exactly as I’d wanted, complete with a Gravity Form to act as a search form for it. Very happy with the purchase after so much frustration with this free version

I’ll take a look at the workaround – definitely ugly but if it works it works!

I’d actually taken a look at the Collapse Commander plugin/extension; it appears to be a powerful tool, but at this point we don’t have enough expand elements on-site to make it worth using.

We’re still running WP 3.9.3, and having glanced over the link from your last message it seems we’ll need to update to 4.0+ to get the formatting tags working again. We’re holding off the update for now, and I have been able to reformat my expand/collapse codes to work in the meantime.

I’m still running into the issue. For now, I’m going to make do without the formatting w/in titles – I don’t have the time to test plugin conflicts at the moment. I will try to take a look at this later today/tomorrow and get back to you. I did just update to 1.6.3c, and am still encountering the problem

I had to change the shortcodes I was using on my live page, as I couldn’t leave it broken over the weekend. However, I’ve copied a sample from the old version onto a new page which you can see here:

I’ve double-checked that the closing [/expand] and [/expandsub1] tags were where they needed to be

As you can see, with <b> and <em></em> tags in the short code, the expand title gets cut off after the first word, the formatting tags don’t close, and the rest of the page gets messed up.

I updated earlier and it broke the display of one of my Directory Columns – it’s now no longer pulling data from the entry and instead only pulls a non-breaking space  , so I’m stuck with a blank column!
