Thank you @mikes41720 for all your help with this.

Just to clarify, you say “If you want your attachment URLs to not show up in the search results but still be accessed by your visitors, you can choose not to redirect the attachment URL to the attachment itself, and then select the option for it to not show in the search results”

Apologies if I’m being a bit dense, but what settings are you specifically recommending here?

To be clear, the outcome I am trying to achieve is that when Google crawls a page or post on our site I want the crawl to include all the images and any metadata the images contain. This will ensure any SEO elements relevant to those images are captured and associated with the specific pages or posts the images appear on.

However, I do not want google to index image URLs separately and show these individually in search results as this effectively fills the search results with rubbish and directly impacts peoples ability to actually find the information I want them to find.

As such, I’m trying to get clear and precise instructions on exactly which settings will achieve this.

Thanks in advance for your continued help.

@mazedulislamkhan thanks very much for the reply.

I notice a number of other people are having similar problems since the recent Yeost update.

    What I ultimately want is:
    * For image urls not to be indexed separately by Google as I do not want them showing up in search results (which is currently happening) – I only want the page showing up in Google search results;
    * No 500 errors showing up in Google Analytics – I’m getting dozens of these at the moment, all referring to image urls that don’t exist.
    * For Google to crawl the metadata of images as part of the page crawl – we include keywords in the title, alt tags and captions that we want Google to crawl) – my understanding is that this is essentially what the old “redirect to post URL setting did).

If you can advise the correct settings in Yoast to ensure my image metadata is crawled as part of the page or post, while avoiding Google analytics 500 errors and ensuring image URLs do not appear in Google search results it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your continued assistance.

Having the same problem. WordPress 4.9.6 included this enhancement but it’s not showing in my comments options.

    Hi John

    Thanks for the response.

For the most part I have things working well, although there still does seem to be an issue where selecting the “Tiled Gallery” tickbox in the edit gallery screen results in the links not working.

Would appreciate your thoughts on what may be causing this?

    Regards

    Hi all

Have subsequently used the suggested edit to the functions.php that Kettercat shared and this seems to have also resolved the error when I am logged in to the admin area.

Thanks Kettercat and everyone else that has contributed to this resolution.

    Marking this as resolved.

    Thanks very much marie0722

So it would seem that although the error message is showing while logged in, on the live site the galleries are working fine!!

Problem is of course that when you are creating a page or post you want to see how it looks in preview, but in this case the preview doesn’t work.

Will try the functions.php edit again and see if that works.

Yep an alternative would be great, or dare I dream to have this kind of functionality in the core functionality??

    Hi guys

    You’re right it’s not fixed.

I had a few days where the site worked fine on all my devices but today it has reverted back to the original problem, again displaying the message “Jetpack’s Carousel has been disabled, because another plugin or your theme is overriding the [gallery] shortcode.”

I hope someone out there has a solution.

    Hi all

Weirdly this issue has now resolved itself – no idea how, but from this evening I no longer seem to be having this issue.

Have not taken any action to resolve so not sure why it now works?

As such am closing thread as resolved.

On further testing, the other very weird thing about this problem is that I get this error on my macbook, however, my wife can load the same page on her macbook without the error, and the gallery links are working fine.

This occurs after we have both deleted our browsing history and cache.

    Am now truly baffled!

    Hi @ellenp

Did you manage to get any resolution on this?

The image on the Gary Stuart page certainly looks clearer than many of the ones I’m using with this theme at the moment.

    Cheers

Ok so on further testing I’m guessing the issue I have is that the plugin does not work with a WP Tiles gallery.

Here’s the code I’m currently using:

    [gallery tiles="yes" grids="1-1" small_screen_grid="1 large" breakpoint="400" image_size="large" link="file" ids="4751,3716,3377,1224,2314,4104,3582,1206,4914,1446,1087,3794,4752,4219,4756,4763,4764,4765"]

I can get the link URL to wok with a native WordPress gallery, but with my theme I can’t get the caption styling that I want.

Ultimately I really like WP Tiles so would like to maintain that functionality so does anyone know if there is some way to make this plugin work with WP Tiles?

    Thanks
    John
