In reply to: my webzineIt’s visually beautiful. I have no idea what it’s about, and I didn’t see a link to an english version. It might be there, but I gave up quickly, as most people who don’t understand the language would. I don’t have multiple language versions of my site either, but you asked the question on a mostly english-speaking forum.

In reply to: I need opinionsYou’re asking a lot of questions that could have really complicated answers. The basic setup of that site, after the splash page, is pretty simple in structure. But they’ve spent some time on getting the overall look and functionality. If you just want to get familiar with WordPress, you can get a free blog at https://www.wordpress.com. After you see how it works, then you can get your own domain and install WordPress there. WordPress.com also has a way to point to your URL if you already have a domain.
You have two basic choices –
1. Hire a professional.
2. Muck around with it yourself until you can get it sorta where you want it, then hire a professional.I know 2 sounds worse, but you will be a better consumer of their services if you arm yourself with some knowledge first.
On finding help for hire – Try to find someone near you. Craigslist is a start. Google WordPress and your city. Okay you’re NYC, try a borough or something to narrow it down some. It just helps to be able to meet and/or pick up the phone.

In reply to: Problem with AdSenseCheck your Adsense account terms of service, but it used to be that you could only run three at a time on a given page.

In reply to: A Clog – A Cartoon log – What to do in the blank space?you need to put something there for people who surf with js turned off, i see nothing…everywhere, not even dead people
About the only thing I could say is: Turn javascript on if you want to see anything. It’s basic to the site.
Thanks Moshu,
It never hurts (much) to ask.
Here in Austin we have a WordPress Yahoo! user group. That’s another resource people might find useful, look for it in your area. I’ve found someone here who is really good at PHP (which I’m not) and I am grateful that he’s available on a reasonable retainer fee. Knowledge is power and sometimes it’s worth paying for it.
Yeah, what Otto said.
I did start with a WordPress.com site but chucked it after a couple of weeks. You can easily learn this stuff that fast. I didn’t know about the $10 deal, good idea!
Edit: And Otto, speaking of history, I recently switched to a new user name here so it matches my new website name. Any way to attach the history of my old user name to this one?

In reply to: just want to publish pages not have a blog ?Okay, thanks. Yeah, looking more closely they’re trackbacks, which is a good thing. It just threw me that the pingbacks are in a separate list.
The downside of going with less hassle is less control. I’m not a ‘computer person’ at all, but after a few tries I feel comfortable with the program. If it’s really going to be a personal blog and stay a personal blog forever, then the simple plans will work. But if you think it will ever evolve into something bigger, you are better off plunging into the deeper water now. Why? Because traffic is related to longevity and you don’t want to start all over at a later date. Plus, if you establish a website on your own it’s yours forever, and it’s your trademark being promoted.

In reply to: just want to publish pages not have a blog ?In Dashboard>Settings>Discussion:
“Allow people to post comments on the article” is not checked.
The option to post comments is not active in the Manage page for the post. I have pingbacks, which I’ve allowed, but I don’t understand where the comments are coming from.
Sorry Ken, I didn’t mean to hijack your thread, but I -think- these might be related issues.

In reply to: just want to publish pages not have a blog ?Otto: Understood. But if all he’s doing is publishing pages, no blog, he shouldn’t have comments on at all. Which might be another new set of worms.
I have all references to comments off on my blog, no comments allowed checked when I publish, even went into the theme editor and commented out the calls to comments in all the templates. And yet I have comments in the Dashboard. And they’re approved. But don’t show anywhere. So how do we shut this door tight?

In reply to: just want to publish pages not have a blog ?You must have a hot-link to your email for the spammers to be able to find it that quickly. Use just plain text for your email, perhaps in a “Contact” page. If that doesn’t work, use a confused version of the plain text: me AT mydomain DOT com
If that doesn’t work add even more confusion and then give directions:
me AT fuzzlebugmydomain DOT com (remove fuzzlebug)
Since all you want to do is publish articles, it should be relatively easy to shut the doors. Weird.
