Hi @dannydj,
We’ve replied to your help desk ticket about this issue, so I’ll be closing this thread.
Thanks @nickabela. A few updates can be made:
- Access to the wp-admin directory is blocked via a plugin that changes the login page. We actually don’t recommend hiding the login URL for reasons explained here: https://www.wordfence.com/blog/2017/10/should-you-hide-wordpress-login-page/ That being said, blocking access to /wp-admin/ is also blocking the WordPress AJAX handler, which is needed for scans to run. You can try deactivating this plugin to check if scans can run when it’s not in use.
- You can increase your wp_memory_limit value in the wp-config.php file to 256M. Currently, it’s only 40M.
- Lastly, you can set max_execution_time = 60 in your php.ini file. Wordfence’s scan only attempts to use half of this value by default. Larger values such as the 3600 you currently have set have been known to slow/kill scans in other sites.
Let me know if you continue to have issues.
Hi @nickabela,
Can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link at the top of the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page. Then select “Send Report by Email.”
Please add your forum username and respond here after you have sent it.
Can you switch the Firewall to Learning Mode, then edit the page again?
From the Wordfence Dashboard, select Manage WAF. Under Basic Firewall Options > Web Application Firewall Status, change the option to Learning Mode.
Now try to edit and save the page again. This will help Wordfence learn that these actions are normal and it will allow them in the future.
If you were able to edit/save successfully, you can switch the WAF from Learning Mode back to Enabled and Protecting.
Let me know if you continue to have issues.
Hi @zero67,
Can you try switching to a different browser, or using a private/Incognito window?
If that doesn’t help, please try loading the page while keeping a browser console open to check for any JavaScript errors or files that fail to load.
Hi @rhenalyn,
Can you try the following steps:
- Log in to Wordfence Central and go to the Connection Issues tab. Remove any sites in the list by selecting the trash icon.
- Log in to your site as an admin.
- Navigate to Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics > Other Tests > Clear all Wordfence Central connection data.
- From the Wordfence Dashboard, select Connect this site in the Wordfence Central widget.
Let me know if you continue to have issues.
Hi @cyberbless,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
It sounds like you’re asking about our Wordfence Response license. For anything related to our premium licenses, we aren’t allowed to discuss here, as per www.ads-software.com forum rules.
Please feel free to create a support ticket at https://support.wordfence.com or write to us directly at presales @ wordfence . com.
Thanks for the update. There may be a plugin conflict, or possibly some files are failing to load.
Can you try loading a page (either the installation page or the Tools page) while keeping a browser console open? If you detect any JavaScript errors, files that fail to load, or other errors, please take a screenshot.
Are you able to load the Wordfence > Tools page without the installation overlay?
If you can, please select the Import/Export Options tab and select the Export Wordfence Options button. This will display a token that we can use to read your diagnostics. You can send that to the wftest @ wordfence . com address. (Make sure to include your forum username in the email and reply here after sending it).

TiffanyHi @maggie96,
Do you know if the site’s PHP version has been upgraded recently? We had a case where PHP was upgraded from 7.4 to 8.0 and the firewall was no longer optimized.
At any rate, you should be okay selecting the “include” option and re-optimizing the firewall.
Let me know if you have any issues.
Thanks,
TiffanyHi @designbysue,
Please select “Get Your Wordfence License” and this will take you to wordfence.com. Select the “Get a Free License” button. This will open a popup where you’ll need to enter your email and accept the Terms and Conditions. Then select “Register.”
Your license key will be sent to the email that you provided. Select the “Install License” link in the email. This link will automatically install the Free license key to your requested website.
Let me know if you have any issues!
Thanks,
TiffanyHi @dejan85,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
The modified query string itself shouldn’t cause cache problems, but you can turn off Hide WordPress version to prevent replacing the ver= string. Wordfence only replaces the version string if it matches the WordPress version on the site, so you may have caching problems after that resulting file gets cached.
Let me know if you continue to have issues.

Hi @2chicks,
Can you email feedback @ wordfence . com to tell us which email address you used when registering? Please include the link to this forum post.
Our developers are looking into this issue. They expect that it happens when the host’s mail server either doesn’t respond initially, or gives an unexpected response, as normally the emails are delivered within seconds.
Thanks in advance.
