    Thanks Dave, that works well…I think. I have those elements set with a red background, just so they’ll be easily visible. The problem is, there’s no text showing inside the anchor tag…even though it has a style of color: #fff !important; attached to it. That shouldn’t even be a problem, because I intend to use images for the arrows, but I wanted to make sure everything was actually working as it should.

    So my next problem is: how do I get the arrows to show up, and will they be context-sensitive — in other words, will the “Previous” arrow disappear at the start, and the “Next” arrow disappear at the end?

    BTW…I went ahead and upgraded to Pro, order # 5278854. I don’t mind at all paying for plugins if they work and the support has been as good as with this one.

    The initial design workup is at https://clients.marketdigita.com/hultsbruk/

    The slider displays the product line, but without visible navigation it makes it seem as though the product line is limited to six models.

    That works pretty well…but is there any way to make the forward and back arrows fixed and visible, rather than invisible until you mouse over the carousel? Even if it means hacking the plugin.

    So, it was just changing “category” to “cat.” Thanks.

    I think we probably should take this part of the discussion over to the Popup Maker support board. So, without further ado…

    I installed Query Monitor, and can’t figure out what it does.

    I also installed Popup Maker, and on installation I got this:

    Notice: Undefined index: weight in /mnt/stor2-wc1-dfw1/372872/www.[ domain name ].com/web/content/ [ folder name ] /wp-content/plugins/popup-maker/includes/importer/easy-modal-v2.php on line 79

    I went ahead and tried the plugin anyway; imported the Easy Modals using the import tool; then changed the class name of one of them from “eModal-9” to “popmake-120” — which was, I assumed, all that needed to be done. Anyway, it didn’t work: that particular link wouldn’t launch a modal. All the Easy Modals still worked. What’s more, clicking on any page now shows this error:

    Notice: Undefined index: items in /mnt/stor2-wc1-dfw1/372872/www.[ domain name ].com/web/content/ [ folder name ] /wp-content/plugins/popup-maker/includes/google-fonts.php on line 26

    Yes. Turns out the problem is Easy Modal 2.0.16. I deactivated that, and the error disappears.

    Problem is: for this site, the modal windows are actually a more important element than the search. Do you know of any solution to this kind of conflict that doesn’t simply involve dumping one of the plug-ins?

    I changed the theme to TwentyFourteen, to TwentyThirteen, and to TwentyTwelve, and got the same results with each of them, so it’s nothing in the theme.

    Plus, I have an older development site that is still running on 4.0.1, with virtually the same search.php and searchresults.php (the only differences are the HTML output), and it works fine.

    It’s fixed now…it turned out to be a javascript problem, and once I got that taken care of the modals launched fine.

    I still wonder, though: shouldn’t the data-emodal attribute look like

    ="{'id':'1','theme_id':'1','meta':

    rather than

    ="{"id":"1","theme_id":"1","meta": ?

    Not a programmer, so I have no idea; it just looked kinda odd.

    (BTW…link is https://www.arcadiavillage.com/community/)

    Okay, I missed that you have to enable a modal for that page. So I scrolled down and checked the one I wanted to load (the only one there), and updated the page. Then I went to the page, clicked on the link, and nothing happened.

    Then I thought to check out the source, and sure enough that modal is loading on the page. Here’s what’s loading:

    <div id="eModal-1" class="emodal theme-1 responsive medium" data-emodal="{&quot;id&quot;:&quot;1&quot;,&quot;theme_id&quot;:&quot;1&quot;,&quot;meta&quot;:{&quot;id&quot;:&quot;1&quot;,&quot;modal_id&quot;:&quot;1&quot;,&quot;display&quot;:{&quot;overlay_disabled&quot;:0,&quot;size&quot;:&quot;medium&quot;,&quot;custom_width&quot;:0,&quot;custom_width_unit&quot;:&quot;%&quot;,&quot;custom_height&quot;:0,&quot;custom_height_unit&quot;:&quot;em&quot;,&quot;custom_height_auto&quot;:1,&quot;location&quot;:&quot;center top&quot;,&quot;position&quot;:{&quot;top&quot;:100,&quot;left&quot;:0,&quot;bottom&quot;:0,&quot;right&quot;:0,&quot;fixed&quot;:0},&quot;animation&quot;:{&quot;type&quot;:&quot;fade&quot;,&quot;speed&quot;:&quot;350&quot;,&quot;origin&quot;:&quot;center top&quot;}},&quot;close&quot;:{&quot;overlay_click&quot;:0,&quot;esc_press&quot;:1}}}"><div class="emodal-title">This is a test</div><div class="emodal-content"><p>Does this finally work?</p>
    </div><a class="emodal-close">×</a></div>

    Let me make sure I understand this: if the modal is set to “Per Page/Post” (which it is), you embed it on a page by using one of the examples, such as

    <a href="#" class="eModal-1">Open Modal</a>

    Is this not correct? I believe this is all I ever did before.

    I’ve been following this, because I’m having the same problems. With 2.0.12, no modals would launch; after updating to 2.0.13, nothing worked at all…I couldn’t save modals or changes to the theme. It would SAY they were saved, but they weren’t.

    I clicked “Uninstall Easy Modal Settings” to totally wipe out the modal database; then I deactivated the plugin and deleted it entirely. I reinstalled it, deactivated every other plugin, reactivated Easy Modal, and finally it allowed me to edit the theme and create a test modal. But the modals still don’t work: not with the simple anchor tag, and not with a button. Click either one, and nothing happens.

    If it matters, I’m using WordPress 3.9.2.

    Changing the excerpt length to words fixed it. Thanks.

    That’s okay, it’s my own theme.

    Josh, thanks for the reply. Actually, I figured out a different approach: rather than try to put the conditional logic in the menu, I used it to call one of two alternate menus, one for those logged in and one for those not logged in.

    <?php
    if ( is_user_logged_in() ) {
    wp_nav_menu( array( 'theme_location' => 'thisNav' ));
    } else {
    wp_nav_menu( array( 'theme_location' => 'thatNav' ));
    }
    ?>

    That’s in header.php. So far, it seems to work fine.
