    They still make zunes?

There’s a few sites that are ripping ALL CONTENT straight from other sites’ RSS feeds, not generating their own content at all, and placing ads on these pseudo-sites. I would think that placing ads in an RSS feed might discourage the content-rippers a little. But ultimately, it’s got to be up to the advertising companies to enforce some kind of standards for original content. If it pays, people will do it. I wrote a little bit about this on my by blog: https://www.doubtingthomasblog.net/?p=414

I’ve tried technosailor’s plugin, but it doesn’t seem to work. what am I missing?

I installed it according to the simple directions, activated it, and attempted to upload a database I made from the backup-your-database instructions, and I get the message “Have Fun!” but the posts from my database backup aren’t there.

    what am I missing?

the plugin available from watershedstudio.com looks good, but in the install directions, there’s a bit of info missing–namely how many fields the table needs. I posted a comment on the watershedstudio.com blog entry about this plugin, but no answer yet. anyone here happen to know how many fields the table needs?

Yes, but the results are not right. I’ll deactive that plugin and try, try again. Thanks for sticking with me on this, HandySolo.

No, I upgraded the old blogs to the latest version (2.2.1) after that came up earlier in this thread. I thought that was the best way to get the Export tool.

So now I can’t get an WXR, can I. The feed file that I save seems to have brought categories into my new blog, and some of them say they have a ton of posts, but there are no posts.

Yep, that’s what I’m trying to do. The format of the exported file is an RSS feed of the posts. I am hoping to get the categories and comments, too. This WordPress eXtended RSS (WXR) file that I’ve heard about, I don’t get one, just a really big RSS (RBR, ha ha ha).

so now that I’ve upgraded the older blogs to 2.2.1, I can’t use that plugin, because it just generates the RSS feed file instead of the file the export plugin, right? has anyone ever gone back to an old version of WP before and lived to tell about it? I know, I know, SEARCH….

okay, so I upgraded my blogs to 2.2.1 and did the Manage -> Export trick, which creates a GIANT RSS feed file. my browser doesn’t let me save the file directly, do I have to View the Source and copy/paste that into a new file or what?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

That sounds like a good plan.

But is Manage -> Exports is only available in the latest version? I’ll have to upgrade from the 2.0.X that I a am running.

    (what?!?!? I’m not up-to-date?!?!?!)

Does it matter that I have whole different sets of categories in the various blogs?

    Thanks much,
    Thomas

The reason i found it was missing was I was trying to figure out why my blog keeps switching from the theme I made to the default theme. I’ve found a post elsewhere in the forums that suggests my problem is that I’ve got a bad stylesheet, so now I’m looking that over to see if I can find a problem there. (In all the time I’ve been working with WordPress, I’ve never had this problem before.)

I’ve tried this again and again, and I can’t get it to do anything other than say “no feed found”.

I’ve tried every possible permutation of the feed address, and keep getting “no feed found”.

    I’ve tried

    • feed://www.bikeblog.us/feed/
    • //www.bikeblog.us/feed/
    • bikeblog.us/feed/
    • feed://www.bikeblog.us/feed/?feed=rss2
    • //www.bikeblog.us/feed/?feed=rss2
    • bikeblog.us/feed/?feed=rss2

What’s the trick? I know others are using this plugin, but how’d they do it?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

I’ve never had a WordPress blog hacked, and I am not the most diligent of updaters, either. I would agree with IcelandDream and say check with the host to see how secure the server is.

At my college, we’re working on putting mu.wordpress on a server for students. What we really need, though, is a free Akismet license. I sent the Akismet folks an email a while ago but never heard back (I wonder if our college domain name is still being treated as SPAM by a lot of email providers…).

    I like it!
