In reply to: Exploit?Sigh…
You know, it might be time to move to another hosting service.
I better never get a message like this from Squarespace or Weebly.
I know that I’m going to cause a flame storm by saying this.
But just like the steam engine was better than the horse cart, maybe this new model of website hosting is better than the older one.
I’ll have to think about it.

In reply to: Gallery image ordering is brokenYes, of course I have a ton of plugins. Since when did WP do it all out of the box. But after a lot of messing around, I found that the culprit was WP_Sticky, which is an old plugin that I was using to push one post to the front to act as an opener for my site. I’m now using the built in feature to push the post to the front page.
Not clear why galleries would be so fragile, but I guess it’s ok since WP_Sticky is so old. Now that WP has that feature I can ditch the old crufty plugin.
Problem solved.
Thanks, wwForum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Gallery image ordering is brokenThe problem may be that the order of display in the edit panel does not match the order when the post is displayed. What I see when I edit is backwards from what I see when the post is displayed.
There are 14 images in 2 columns. They are displayed backwards in the editor.

In reply to: Galleries LOST in WP 3.0 upgrade…Thanks.. I get it now. I actually just imported it in place. The second blog is not required. Just edit the XML file to replace all instances of the previous URL with the new one and then import.
After importing a previously edited and fixed XML file, the galleries are all apparently fixed now. I just re-imported the file that I used to move the blog to it’s new URL in the first place. Not sure why the galleries had disappeared, but they are back now. And I didn’t lose the work that I had done in the mean time.
Thank you,

In reply to: Galleries LOST in WP 3.0 upgrade…Thanks.
Checking settings:
Permalinks: /%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%/ no change made by the upgrade.Media: Still set to he default of wp-content/uploads, checkbox is still checked.
Of course any changes here will not get the table fixed that relates media to posts. Still no way to add media that is already on the server to this table [whatever it is] to allow me to attach media to posts? I only see the new media that I added today after the upgrade and before I noticed that the table was trashed.
Thanks,

In reply to: Galleries LOST in WP 3.0 upgrade…Can you spell “Fetch a rock”. I may get around to doing some of this, but don’t be surprised if someone else reports this problem.
I have updated WP faithfully for many releases using the automatic method and never had a problem before. Now WP has destroyed my faith since this problem is DISASTROUS and is VERY HARD TO RECOVER FROM, even with backups. Please provide a URL to a clean copy of WP 2.9.2. ooooooo.. Look at that. someone just updated the release archives to include it when it wasn’t there an hour ago… How fortuitous…… hehehehehehe……..
I have build a spanking clean site with 2.9.2, no themes and no plugins [other than that provided] and then added one post with a gallery and then upgraded it. It did not destroy the gallery, but I had to upgrade manually since the machine timed out after 60 seconds during the upgrade. So it’s not simple to cause the failure. I may get around to testing some more cases… What if the pictures are a month old, for example..
BUT I STILL NEED HELP HERE.
The pictures are still up on the server, but the media library has forgotten them. So the table for the media library has clearly been trashed, or deleted or something.
How can I add entries to he media library without uploading new images???
They are in the uploads/2010/02, /03 .. standard convention, but gone from the media library.
I see the Attach function, which will allow me to get them back in the postings once I get them back in the library.
What’s the table name and is there only one table that I have to RESTORE??
Have a good one.

In reply to: Galleries LOST in WP 3.0 upgrade…Have I not reported doing all that he suggested?
I guess I could build a site of the previous version and do a test. No plugins and no themes. I’ll get back to you on that.
Then we could call it a bug, right??

In reply to: Galleries LOST in WP 3.0 upgrade…Changing to default plugins and theme does not fix the problem.

In reply to: Galleries LOST in WP 3.0 upgrade…Let me clarify. Galleries are still there. But are not displayed and the MEDIA galleries for each post are empty.
I can easily create new galleries by uploading files, but the files are stil on the server.
Doesn’t sound like a MEMORY or plugin problem to me, since galleries still work fine. It’s just that they were lost on the upgrade. Can someone tell me how galleries are stored so I can check those tables to see if they are ok.
Thanks,

In reply to: Galleries LOST in WP 3.0 upgrade…Wait a sec…….
Did you understand that I can create NEW GALLERIES…???
The problem is that after the upgrade, all galleries that were already there are LOST when the upgrade occurred.
Aren’t all plugins automatically disabled during the upgrade???
Then re-enabled after??– ww

In reply to: Custom fields are lost when you update postI tried both of your suggestions. To no avail. Is no one else seeing this problem? Also, I recall that all the admin pages are “theme free” and consecutive edits of a post shows that the custom fields actually disappear from the post.
This is apparently a known bug. https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/10511

I don’t see any solutions to the real problem that the author is having, and I’m having.
Maybe this is our answer:
Add From ServerI looked on the WordPress Plugin site too and I don’t see anything.
If you have a mature blog with WP 2.0 that has a lot of media – even if that media is organized by year/month like WP expects, there is no way to make that media available to WP 2.5 media management. WP 2.5 lacks the “import” function to scan for new media files that were uploaded by FTP or other plugins.
There are many reasons for this:
(1) Use of IImage plugin in the past uploads files. This used to be the most convenient way to manage images. But it no longer works under WP 2.5. Which might be ok since the media manager is actual smarter than IImage.(2) Large files, or large collections of files – say 10 or more files, or a few large zip files – are more conveniently uploaded using an ftp client such as Filezilla.
We very badly need a plugin that will allow us to manage the Media control tables inside the new version of WP 2.5.
SEE ABOVE. Maybe this is the plugin we need… HurraryThanks much

In reply to: SPAM with comments and pings disabled??I have read the “Standard Post” a dozen times. Thank you.
You’re welcome. Out of curiosity, why ignore it?
I’m not ignoring your fine advice, but like the fellow with his thumb in the dike, I’d like to make sure that I can stem the tide before adopting a solution that suits my needs.
Thanks for the help with the confirmation for trackbacks. Now if the spam is completely quiet for a couple of days, then I can make appropriate changes for my solution.
Thanks so much,

In reply to: SPAM with comments and pings disabled??I have read the “Standard Post” a dozen times. Thank you. Can someone please answer my question? To stop trackbacks, can I simply remove wp-trackback.php? Does that have any bad side effects that anyone is aware of?
Thank you so much for answering my question,
