Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Unable to Add ThemesSigh. That went about the way I expected it to. I asked that they check the DNS, and they said everything was “fine.” Yet, the issue persists, but only on this one website. Using my same computer/browser, I can log into other WP sites I’ve built and I have no problems at all.
Is there a really specific question I should be asking Arvixe rather than, “Please check the DNS settings?” I know nothing about DNS, so I don’t even really know what it is I’m asking about.
Is there anything I can research on my own to try to resolve this? I’ve got a workaround (download the zipped theme and then install manually), but I keep thinking this problem may have other repercussions down the road.
Thanks for your patience with my lack of knowledge.

In reply to: Unable to Add ThemesI’m hoping someone can come up with another suggestion. I can’t imagine explaining to Arvixe customer support that everything seems to work fine with my internet connection except that one isolated feature of a WordPress installation is returning an error.
“The server is offline” — which server would that be? The one hosting my website? Or something related to www.ads-software.com, since I’m attempting to fetch Theme information from that server? Since everything else in my Admin Dashboard for my site seems to be working fine, I’m unclear on what to describe to my provider.

In reply to: [ITRO Popup Plugin] Wiggle on ChromeThis doesn’t seem like it should be marked as “resolved” since the bug still exists on Chrome. Users shouldn’t have to tweak the code ourselves to fix a problem like this.
How about it, ITRO developers? Please fix this bug in your next update!

In reply to: [Easy Photo Album] Can't retrieve my ONE Photo AlbumDoes anyone associated with this Plugin look at this support forum? I would think a FATAL ERROR would be something they’d respond to…

In reply to: Made a mess of wp-admin folder…as I continue trying to hack my way out of my mess…
I’ve been backing up individual files referenced in fatal error messages, copying just those files from another “good” WP site, and trying to force my way into the Dashboard. I managed to get it to prompt me for my admin logon (although the screen wasn’t visually laid out nicely at all), and now have moved on to this:
Fatal error: Call to undefined method WP_Screen::in_admin() in /home/five50/public_html/wp-includes/load.php on line 606
My technique of replacing the offending individual file no longer gets me anywhere (replacing load.php with the version from the good site doesn’t get rid of a fatal error referencing load.php.
So now I’m wondering if I should just do a full re-install of WP. But, I definitely want to backup & restore all the CONTENT and theme settings so I don’t lose all that.
Can anyone point me at an article that will help step me through doing just that?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

In reply to: Hacker changed Index page & we can't log in to CPUpdate: I’ve managed to remove the hacker’s changes to our logon & have changed logon and password for WP and the site is back up. I’ve removed a plug-in he installed. I’ve also changed all passwords, especially on the SQL database, and changed permissions on the wp-config file.
Anything else obvious that I’m missing? So far, everything I’ve found has had a single modification date, so I’ve also looked at every file & folder to see if that date appears anywhere else.
Thanks!

In reply to: Hacker changed Index page & we can't log in to CPMy wording was poor. I CAN get into the CP for the hosting account. I CANNOT get into the WP-admin area, since the logon name and password which I have successfully used in the past no longer seem to work.
I’ve found the “bad” Index.php in what the host labels the “public_html” area. I have backups showing a few different versions of other Index.php files:
a) in public_html/wp-content :
<?php // Silence is golden. ?>
b) in a backup folder :
<?php /** * Dashboard Administration Screen * * @package WordPress * @subpackage Administration */ /** Load WordPress Bootstrap */ etc.
c) in the live “www” folder :
...the hacked index.php file
I know just enough to be dangerous. Is one of the “a)” or “b)” files the one I should copy into the “www” folder to replace the hacked index.php?
AND, what can I do about the WordPress ACCOUNT which seems to have been changed so that I cannot log in?

In reply to: Problems uploading photosHurray! After reading another few dozen threads, I found the answer to my problem here:
https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/267088?replies=3
I had made a change to my site — I moved things from a temporary testing area to their permanent folder, but didn’t change the path for the “Store uploads in this folder” setting.

In reply to: Problems uploading photosSame problem here. The odd thing is that I was able to upload photos just fine a few months ago, and I haven’t done anything on my site since then.
Everything seems to work OK — it shows a progress bar as photos are uploaded, it says “crunching”, and it displays the file names & lets me add captions, etc. However, the “missing” icon shows next to each photo rather than a thumbnail of the photo.
I’ve tried this using IE8 and using Chrome — same results. Help!
P.S. Sorry for the duplicate post, but the other thread was marked as “resolved” and was pretty old.

In reply to: ‘Exclude’ not working in Page sidebar Widget?Oops…never mind!
ID 201 was an Archived version of the Page I wanted to hide, not the Published version. Once I got the ID number right, it worked just fine.

In reply to: No comments allowed, but spam continuesAccording to the BB site, the issues with GoDaddy seem to have been resolved.
However, when I installed BB and activated it, I was locked out of my own site! Following the instructions on the BB site, I tried emailing info to BB for help — the email bounced.
I had to go delete the Bad Behavior folder from my site using FTP to get things going again.
I think I’m just going to live with Akismet stopping most of the trackbacks, and slow down the graying of my hair.
I really do appreciate your efforts to answer my question — I’ve just become leary of plugins (this is not the first one that hasn’t lived up to expectations for me).

In reply to: No comments allowed, but spam continuesI saw another posting from about 9 months ago that said Bad Behavior wasn’t compatible with GoDaddy. Is that still the case? If so, is there another way to prevent all trackbacks (I’ve just turned off trackbacks for future posts, but haven’t done anything with older posts)

In reply to: Spam? Read this.In the first message, they said that Bad Behavior would not work with GoDaddy. That posting was 9 months ago — is this still true? BB sounds like the ideal answer to my problems with what now seems to be trackback spam.

In reply to: Error: “operator not supported for strings…”Thanks! The old call worked in the previous version of WordPress that I was using, but that was apparently by accident. ??
Things are working well again.
