Will make new bug request from next time if needed, continuing this issue here just not to loose track.

Testing on my local server, .htaccess exists, pasted the code from fast cache settings to .htaccess file. Still plugin cannot detect .htaccess and spits out the same message. I am using better wp security and my wp-content directory has a different name now. It should not effect this plugin, still better to you know.

Trying to install the plugin first time getting 2 errors:
Clicking ‘Activate now’ link gives the following warning message.
The plugin generated 214 characters of unexpected output during activation. If you notice “headers already sent” messages, problems with syndication feeds or other issues, try deactivating or removing this plugin.

Going to the WP Fast Cache settings page gives the following warning.
`Warning: file_get_contents(/.htaccess): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/**/**/**/plugins/wp-fast-cache/wp-fast-cache.php on line 344′

I was trying to do the same thing as the OP. Callum the multisite configuration steps are not the in install readme file or anywhere on www.ads-software.com that I could find.
