That’s very interesting. Thank you very much.
Although, I still don’t understand how anyone would benefit from it.Thanks again!
@wfyann, thank you for this. Word Fence is blocking traffic very efficiently, although the same fantasy URLs are being crawled now by Google, too.
What I am really worried about is what this may do to my reputation.
I am also very curious how – practically – someone may profit from crawling my site for non-existent pages.
I have a real problem with things that I do not understand ??Wolf
@stratosphere, when you say “They add the bad link at the end of the url” – do you know how this works?
Wolf
Interesting. What confuses me is how/why they try to access URLs that have never existed on my site. The ‘links’ are complete fantasy! Why would that happen and what would anybody gain from it?
Okay, that’s great. Thank you very much for your help!
Best wishes
WolfHi,
that’s good news. Thank you very much. However, I had a look at the files and the content of the config.php file looked extremely odd. So odd that I actually deleted the file – I have a copy, though, saved as a text file.
WF does not seem to mind that the file is now missing.
Would you be happy to look at the file?
Thanks,

has Mailchimp restricted your mailing list in any way? Are you still able to manually add subscribers?

I have ascertained that the problem was definitely not connected with the plugin and I have found a workaround.
Thank you.

In reply to: Performance Problems and Images from WP.comNo. Performance itself is much, much improved, although I am still getting strange errors on and off, which appear to be server related. In any case, my webspace provider is looking into this for me. They have been very good, actually, and spent a lot of time monitoring and analysing.
Mostly I am getting an error 503 Backend fetch failed and also an error, where my browser says that it cannot connect to the server.
There are some theories currently why this may happen but nothing definite yet.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Performance Problems and Images from WP.comWell, it’s a bit strange but the JetPack developer said that it looks as if my site had not (been) disconnected properly. He said that he took care of it and everything should be fine now.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Uninstall MysteryIt’s on https://www.wolfkettler.co.uk/blog – it is kind of work in progress because site is being rebuilt on a new database, hence not all the internal links will work. Still …
I also really need to know if there may be anything at all left.

In reply to: Performance Problems and Images from WP.comI am happy with FTP. I already had a look earlier and cannot see anything called Jetpack in the plugins directory. Could there be anything anywhere else?
