The spam site has been down for two days now. It’s just showing a Fedora Core test page. Hopefully their host shut them down, or perhaps they got enough negative feedback that they decided to do the honorable thing and shut down on their own.

It may be legal, but I certainly think that these people should be pestered by bloggers just as much as they pester the hell out of us. What’s wrong with this person getting some nasty emails? After all, WE are the ones who are always having to add protection to our sites so that these people can’t take complete advantage of us by posting spam comments.

Oh, and I have sent complaints regarding that site to all of the sites they have listed. I don’t know what good it will do, but at least I made an attempt.

And now suddenly my feed is coming through on the current feedreader I’m using. How absolutely strange… I have changed nothing since adding the line to my .htaccess file, but it wasn’t working after that and now it is. I am baffled…but not complaining. Thanks for your help!

I added the line to my .htaccess file and my site seems to be compressed now.

However, it hasn’t helped me at all with my XML feeds. I just installed a different feedreader on my computer and it also is not able to read the feeds from my blog. I will try FeedDemon next. But this is starting to worry me that the feeds can’t be read by at least SOME feedreading software.

I always use the permalink structure offered (I just cut and paste it):

/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/

And then for category base I use:

/cat

So, I have been including the /%postname%/ at the end of the permalink. Thanks for your help, by the way. ??

Okay, I’m turning off the permalinks again so I can do some more work on my site.

They are turned back on now…..and no comment area. ??

Yes I still have the same issue with both default and the classic theme. This is my third fresh install today and I just can’t figure this out.

Yes, I turned off the permalinks feature, which is something I really don’t want to do. When permalinks is on, the comment box area doesn’t show up at all.

Do you have any suggestions on how to get the comments area to show up while also having permalinks turned on? Thanks in advance!

I am also having this issue. I am getting nothing that allows anyone to post comments. However, when I turn off permalinks, it works just fine. Does anyone have any idea how I can use permalinks and also actually have visitors post comments? Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Is that how you should write out the email address…using the word AT instead of the @, and with the spaces in there?

It’s just irritating to me that people would actually profit from making other people’s lives miserable. SPAM is one of the great evils of the world (right after people who “key” cars).

I like the look. It stands out from other themes. Probably not all people would like the colors, but so what…it’s your blog.

I have been reading this thread with extreme interest because, well, I’m having the same issue. But now I have more questions….

When you are getting ready to publish a post, what exactly are you supposed to put in the “Send trackbacks to:” box? Is that where you put the URL of the site you are mentioning in your post? Or are you putting the URL of your own site in there? I thought it all made sense and I knew what I was doing….but now perhaps I’m just over-thinking this whole darn thing. Please help! Thanks! ??
