Too bad, though… I *wanted* WooRockets megamenu to work, but just an abandoned no-go.
Good luck!

In reply to: [WP eCommerce] [Plugin: WP e-Commerce] This plugin is a piece of junkJbobw – you’re completely correct, and I’m sure rcano actually gets it.
He may be missing the point (and, to his credit, I’ve read – and used – some of his WPeCommerce tips in the past, successfully) — that premium plugins should work properly out of the box.
I’ve been doing this (developing WP sites) for years, and have used the gamut from simple PayPal shortcodes to Yak to WPeCom to Shopp and Tribulant’s Checkout… and at this point I’m down to either A) a simple ecomm site? straight PayPal shortcodes plugin, or B) more than a few products? – Tribulant’s Checkout.
There’s really nothing in between. Checkout works – out of the box – and their support has been solid ever since I started working with them.
I’ve gotten WPeCom working several times, and each time there’s been *something* that I’ve had to fix/hack/patch or improvise to get the site working. Once working, it’s fine – but until then… why spend the money?)
Anyway, to those out there reading this, contemplating eCommerce… my advice is to either go the simple way with one of the many PayPal shortcode-in-a-page plugins, or make a small investment in Checkout, and you’ll be set for any kind of growth you want to contemplate.
Good luck!
Nope, never heard back. I still use the plugin, and just have gotten used to using the standard WP top menu bar links to get to the site.
Still one of the cleanest, simplest login/admin branding plugins to use, just wish it worked like it *used* to.
Maybe I’ll take some time and give it a tweak myself…
Update to my post above… that gave me problems in FF 8 just now, and I went back in and did *not* include the first item in the masking div (it didn’t make sense, but it worked on other browsers) and now it’s working cross browser.
Take that previous paragraph, float it up, z-wize, double up on that first wrongly-spaced expand item and then suck the whole list up the page with a negative bottom margin…
At least you get what you want… ??
Well… this is a kludge of a fix, but it’s working for me:
I just wrapped the paragraph that preceded my first EXPAND]…[/EXPAND] set and – *included* the first [EXPAND]…[/EXPAND] set in a div, with an inline style of position:relative, z-index:9999 and margin-bottom: -80px.
Then, outside of that div, I just repeated that first EXPAND item, and went on with my following EXPAND items.
Basically, I just floated the preceding paragraph to the top of the page, sucked the errantly-p-tagged first expand item up underneath it (made sure my hiding div had a background set) and then repeated the first expand item so that it could show up as the first *visible* item.
I had to play with the negative bottom margin to get the item hidden properly, but when done, it worked – IE 8,9 FF PC/Mac, Chrome and Safari…
Like I said, an ugly kludge, but now I have a neat, tidy, evenly spaced list of expanding items….

In reply to: Tribulant Shopping CartI’ve been doing something similar, with a license for myself and purchasing new licenses for clients. I use my license for the staging site, and the client’s license on the production… then I have to email Tribulant to retire/redeploy my license on the next development site. It’s getting tedious – I’m ready to go unlimited from my next build onward.
For me, it’s now either easy-e-commerce via a PayPal-only plugin code, or full-featured-e-commerce Tribulant’s offering — I don’t see much in between worth messing with.
I do wish the docs were heavier – I like my reference materials – but, to be fair, everything pretty much works right out of the box, so maybe it’s a “you don’t *need* no stinkin’ manual…” situation…

In reply to: Tribulant Shopping CartHi, Sporkme –
I, too, landed on Tribulant’s shopping cart for my ecommerce needs. I’ve run through a bunch of plugins, from simple to complex, and have even done stand-along OSCommerce builds.
I’m pretty happy with Tribulant’s offering. My client’s ecomm desires are typically an integration of blog/website and conventional e-shopping, and I think Tribulant’s offering fits that bill.
I particularly like that, while it does use Posts/Pages as product items, it will create and maintain those automatically… yet you can get at them to edit and modify if you want.
So, enter twenty products in the Product editor, and you also end up with twenty Posts – you can see and edit/embellish them in the Post editor if you want.
I’ve used the Tribulant plugin on three sites so far, and have been pretty happy. The crew that built and maintains it is in South Africa, so there’s a support-lag… I’ve gotten used to posting any support needs before I go to bed, and I usually have a response when I wake up in the morning.
They haven’t caught up with the v3 of the USPS API… so as of this morning I still can’t use USPS shipping calculations; but I know they’re working on it, and they *did* just add UPS shipping, so I’m happy about that.
Anyway – all in all, I’m pretty happy, and am sticking with them for a while – getting ready to do the developer/unlimited license, I think…
Hope that helps – good luck!

In reply to: [Promotion Slider] [Plugin: Promotion Slider] Slider sucks@biosaj – Sorry, I have to agree with MACscr…. I’ve used this plugin several times now, and it’s pretty solid. Most other sliders require you to use their controls or shortcodes or other, and can’t slide posts – Promotion Slider lets you slide any posts, including custom post types. Pretty slick, really.
And…. “secret ‘set featured image’ link”? Really? Featured image is a powerful little tool, really valuable when using WordPress as a CMS. Just define a few custom image sizes, and specify that size when using featured image when displaying posts, and the end-user of the site can change graphic elements without having to worry about image sizes…
If you find “set featured image” to be secret and hidden down there in the post/page editor, drag it up to the top.
Slider’s Slick!

In reply to: [Download Manager] Download Manager 2.0.1 & WordPress 3.1 failsJetpack can be found at https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/jetpack/ ; it has multiple “modules” that you can enable/disable…. it’s the Proofreading module I found that interferes with the file upload. In my case it appears to interfere with a save (or temporary save) function – I’m thinking that the proofreader does an intermittent save and comparison to a baseline library or file, and it’s that intermittent save-before-update on a post routine that’s somehow interfering with your plugin trying to update/upload a file.
Thanks for looking into it; in the interim, I’ve just suspended proofreading, and will look into your pro version.
Good work, and thanks!

In reply to: [Download Manager] Download Manager 2.0.1 & WordPress 3.1 failsThis has been a great, simple plugin – thanks!
Then, I ran into a problem on a new site running 3.1 – files just wouldn’t upload. No errors – just no action when picking “upload” to upload a file. (And I am running the latest 2.0.2
Did some digging, and found that the Jetpack Proofreading plugin was interfering with things. Disable ‘proofreading’ in my user profile and the uploads work great. Re-enable it – no work no more.
For now, I have the proofreading disabled on this site… but I’d sure like to use both!
