UPDATE: I decided to try the shortcode block in place of the VideoPress block to add videos to posts. That allowed me to add the hd=true parameter and that seems to be one way to get the results I seek. Your comments will be welcomed.

I was using a child theme setup that I got from the leader of our local Divi group. It was the source of the problem. I spun up a new site on my localhost and everything is working fine with a minimal child theme setup. Thank you again for pointing me in the right direction to get past this issue.

I didn’t think to check that, but Media does not show when AME is deactivated. based on this test, I suspect that something in the child theme must be the source of the problem.

Hi, Janis. Yes, this is related to the Admin Menu Editor plugin. I am able to reorder items when either the Divi theme or the child theme is active, but I cannot see the Media menu item when the child theme is active.

UPDATE: After additional searching I found an article that resolved the issue. In order for the featured image to be accessible to the new role user, I had to grant permission to Upload Files. As the article pointed out, this setting is not intuitive, but it’s the way WordPress works.
