You CAN change the incoming email address. This is pretty easy to do. Just click the button on the right of the notification recipient field and change the email address on the contact profile screen. The “official” admin email address will remain untouched. You can also watch the Email Settings video tutorial, it is shown there

About the Submit button.

There are 3 main reasons of this:

1. JavaScript errors on a contact form page.
2. The wp_enqueue_script function is not properly invoked by a theme. In order to fix it set the Fix JS Loading checkbox on the ECF -> Settings page.
3. Dynamic content loading. In order to fix this, set the Fix JS Loading and Fix JS Loading 2 checkboxes. No guarantee that this will work, but it’s worth trying. Technically speaking, in this case script tags should be evaluated, which is being done by default in jQuery.

A hammer is a pretty easy thing, but there are a lot of things which are not that easy to do with a hammer.

If you need a simple 3 fields form, then ECF is probably not for you.

ECF is good when it is necessary to create a set of well protected, comprehensive forms, which use data validation and instant user input error response features.

ECF is designed to create complex things easily.

I do not think that this is an update related error.

Status = 500 means ‘Internal Server Error’.

You need to look to your error logs to find out the error reason.

Your forms are not lost. After you reinstall the plugin it will be working again.

I do not know what the problem ‘Destination folder exists’ is, looks like there were several attempts to install the plugin.

I would suggest to manually create the […]/plugins/easy-contact-forms directory and unpack the latest version into it.

Anyways prior to doing this I would suggest to check if your hosting provider has a backup of your site.

No doubts I should say thank you to Anders for publishing of the research results. Finding such issues remotely is close to impossible.
