    ARGH! No luck.

I tried deleting YOAST (as recommended by GoDaddy) and that made it worse! Now it’s happening a couple of times per day! I’ve been trying to keep the site up, but I’ll just reach out for help when it’s actually happening next time and wait until some live troubleshooting is completed.

I did “reset” (if that’s what you’d call it) the .htaccess file using this post that clarified the steps for me: https://wpbrainery.com/wordpress/how-to-fix-a-corrupted-htaccess-file/

That happened early yesterday and since the problem normally shows up every other day, I’m just waiting to see if the site can go another day without the issue.

For those who may be reading and looking for step-by-step, non-coding-genius instructions:

Log on to your www.ads-software.com dashboard.

On the left-hand menu, click on ‘Plugins’.

      Click on ‘Add New.’

On the ‘Add Plugins’ screen, click into the search box on the right-hand side of the screen.

Type ‘UpdraftPlus’ and press ‘Enter’ on your keyboard.

Choose a site backup plugin (I used UpdraftPlus – Backup/Restore).

Click ‘Install’ on the plugin you like and wait for the ‘Activate’ button to appear.

      Click ‘Activate.’

On the left-hand toolbar, click ‘Plugins’ and select ‘Installed Plugins’.

Find ‘UpdraftPlus’ (or whatever site backup plugin you installed) and click on ‘Settings’ beneath the plugin title.

When the plugin page loads, click the ‘Backup Now’ button.

You may get a pop-up window that asks you questions about what portions of your site you want to back up. Make sure everything is selected and click ‘Backup Now’.

Wait for the plugin to finish backing up your site before proceeding to the next steps.

    AFTER BACKING UP YOUR SITE

Log on to your www.ads-software.com dashboard.

On the left-hand menu, click on ‘Plugins’.

      Click on ‘Add New’.

On the ‘Add Plugins’ screen, click into the search box on the right-hand side of the screen.

Type ‘WP File Manager’ and press ‘Enter’ on your keyboard.

Choose a file manager plugin (I used the one by mndpsingh287).

Click ‘Install’ on the plugin you like and wait for the ‘Activate’ button to appear.

Click ‘Activate’ and you’ll see the plugin appear in your left-hand toolbar. If not, click on ‘Plugins’ and go to ‘Installed Plugins’ to find it.

Click on ‘WP File Manager’ or whichever file manager you chose.

This should take you to your file directory (it looks just like it does when you browse for a file on your computer, you’ll see folder and file icons and document and folder names).

Under the first few rows of folders is a file called ‘.htaccess’.

Right-click on .htaccess and choose the ‘Rename’ option.

      Rename the file “.htaccessold”.

Now, go to ‘Settings’ in the left-hand toolbar (usually under ‘Tools’).

      Choose ‘Permalinks’.

When the ‘Permalinks Settings’ page opens, scroll to the bottom and click ‘Save Changes’ (no, you won’t actually be changing anything, but click the button anyway).

Click on the ‘WP File Manager’ (or the file manager plugin you picked) again.

When your directory opens this time, you should see a new file named .htaccess.

If you don’t see the regenerated file, try clicking the ‘Refresh’ button in your file manager plugin or even on your browser.

Right-click on ‘.htaccessold’ and choose the ‘Delete’ option.

The plugin will ask you to confirm the file deletion. Click ‘Delete’.

    Happened again today.

I am now using a localized timezone (New York). Does not fix the issue.

The last two messages are more gibberish (^o^) and the plug-in apparently tells you what’s wrong, but doesn’t tell you what to do about it, so I’m stuck again, I guess. The messages are below:

    A scheduled event has failed
The scheduled event, action_scheduler_run_queue, failed to run. Your site still works, but this may indicate that scheduling posts or automated updates may not work as intended.

Not sure how much of an issue this is or the likelihood that it’s related to my issue.

The REST API did not behave correctly
The REST API is one way WordPress, and other applications, communicate with the server. One example is the block editor screen, which relies on this to display, and save, your posts and pages.

The REST API did not process the context query parameter correctly.

Was able to delete all extraneous themes. This did not fix the issue.

PHP is up-to-date, so this wasn’t an issue.

I have these five recommendations from the Health Check plug-in:

You should remove inactive themes Security

We recommend that you update PHP Performance

A scheduled event has failed Performance

Your site is not using localized timezones Performance

The REST API did not behave correctly

    Following through on these now.

It’s happening again! Both Writerwerx.com/learn and Writerwerx.com/arc won’t show up, even though Writerwerx.com (front page) shows up just fine. Neither will show up when I click the links on the home page either. Going to take a look at Health Check plug-in now.

I installed and activated the Health Check plug-in. I haven’t received any alerts from it (though I have no idea if that’s how it works).

The htaccess article may as well be in Chinese (NOTE: I don’t speak Chinese) so that wasn’t helpful at all, I’m afraid.

I understand that what’s happening is probably not what’s normal (hence me reaching out for help).

If the Health Check plug-in is fruitful I’ll let you know. So far today, no hiccups with disappearing pages. Yay! Thanks!!

I am willing to try that plug-in, yes. I’ll report back after it’s done.

Does the .htaccess change after you “reset” the permalinks?

Again: I’m not a coder or even particularly savvy with WordPress. I don’t know what this means.

    Thanks for responding!

None of those people had my exact issue (which is why I started this thread in the first place).

I was just trying whatever I could find that might have some effect. I didn’t keep a log of every search I did or anything, but here are a few examples of what I find when I try to search for my problem:
