In reply to: Why Mingus?Well, Matt is himself a Jazz musician, and enjoys everything Jazz.
Naming finale WP releases after Jazz legends is, as I understand, sort of a habit ?? Bird was considered for 1.2, but Mingus was chosen.

In reply to: Drumroll – Hindi L10N is donepankaj, I’m really sorry if I said anything that hurt out, it truly wasn’t my intention. I was more asking questions to the admins, than try to diss your work (which would be a stupid thing to do). I know how long and hard a task it is to translate all those strings, and I can totally understand your enthousiasm for finishing the current file (I know I was ?? ).
I hope there’s not hard feeling, that wasn’t my point.

In reply to: Drumroll – Hindi L10N is doneI don’t want to bring down the enthousiasm about this, but shouldn’t a translation be considered complete only once WP1.2 is dimmed final, and the accompagnying, definitive WP1.2 POT is released ?
Thus far, every new POT release brings a lot of changes to make to the POs, and I’m pretty confident the final 1.2 POT will bring its lot.
–
Which brings me to something I already raised, and I think I have the answer : when will “Project-Id-Version:” be properly filled in the POT ? I suppose when WP1.2 is final. This would be most useful to synchronize test blogs : the right POT file with the right CVS version…
–
Also, that brings another point : starting with WP1.2 finale, will every future WP release have its own PO files ? i.e., WP1.2 would have its hi.po 1.2, fr.po 1.2, es.po 1.2, etc., while WP1.3 will have its own hi.po 1.3, fr.po 1.3 and so forth ? Haven’t researched the matter yet, I’m just wondering out loud… That would need a renaming of some Wiki pages, among other things ??
–
The fr.po is being updated according to the latest POT as you read this, and should be put on the wiki tonight or tomorrow. Yay for Gettext ??Forum: Everything else WordPress
In reply to: Migration from Radio UserlandWant to blog offline ? Use NotePad/Word/whatever then copy/paste in WP when online! ??
About that import-rss.php : it’s a grrreat idea, but I suppose the best way for it to work would be that all blogging tool should properly export all posts (full-text) in RSS. Which not much do at the moment, am I right ?
Having such “import/export by RSS” would mean at last not having to build undreds of importers between differing tools. This needs evangelization ??
Apparently Radio does export full RSS, are there other blogging tools allowing this ?Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: 1.2-RC1 and translation problemsrboren : update to wordpress-2004-05-14, still have to manually set $locale to ‘fr’ in wp-l10n.php…
“define (‘WPLANG’, ‘fr’);” in wp-config.php doesn’t seem to be enough…Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: 1.2-RC1 and translation problemsUpdate about the link overlap problem : solved!
Grrr, I thought about it while falling asleep : maybe poEdit is keeping the older version in the file. So instead of finding the string by typing “trackback” in poEdit, I did in NotePad, and found out that there are two instances of the “Trackback an URI (separate…)” string : one in simple edit mode, one in advanced.
As my settings where on “When starting a post, show: advanced”, I set it back to simple, and there you go : it works. The problem resides in the advanced part.
And that’s where I understood : while the simple edit mode uses one string, the advanced mode uses two, “Trackback an URI” and “(separate…)”. Of course I couldn’t find the second string, as I was looking for a link in a string containing both Trackback and an Href…
Well, in the end, you were right Allusion : there was a missing closing tag at the end of the second “(separate…)” string.
Now I’m gonna find a hat and eat it. And update to the latest nightly.
Thanks for listening.Forum: Fixing WordPress

In reply to: What is the MO file? Where can I get it?I guess that shows the translators should put both the PO and MO file on the Wiki – not everyone would like to go through downloading/installing some obscure tool, find the way to save an MO out of the PO texte, and so on…
From now on, I’ll include a link to the latest MO file in the wiki. Hope that’ll helps the few French out there ??Forum: Fixing WordPress

In reply to: missing _e() strings as of 04-29Seeing the translation problem some of us have (some strings are translated, but the translation not displayed), I think the next POT should feature the WP version it’s based on.
For now, the latest POT is “Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n” (…), and I’m testing it using WP-alpha-15…. Obviously the POT is based on different files.
I’ll switch to WP-beta soon, hoping the new POT will be made for it.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: l10n weirdnessThe blue line behind the button is the main problem : I can’t publish anything, as clicking on a button redirects me to the Trackback help page on www.ads-software.com!
Wierdest being of course that it worked perfectly well before, I didn’t change the strings, and it apparently appeared out of nowhere. And I can’t seem to be able to remove it, even changing the .po/.mo.
mmmmh.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: l10n weirdnessExplanation : while in the po file, the link is under “TrackBack sur l’URL”, in the interface the link is under the whole string, and in fact covers all the following buttons (see that blue string?) until the next A tag, which is the “?”…
Even removing the A tag from that Trackback string doesn’t remove the problem…
Any idea ?Forum: Fixing WordPress

In reply to: Localization: Help Needed!fatherofpip : I just took a quick glance at se.po, and I think there is one thing you missed. I might be wrong about it, but that’s how I understood the POT file, so there:
It seems all lines must be at most 80 characters long. If your line (including msgstr) is <80, then you can use
msgstr “my short translation bla bla”, but
but if it’s >80, then go
msgstr “”
“my looooooooooooooooong translation”
“is gonna be finished when”
“i’m done”
…with the last ” of each line being at most the 80th character.
I guess using a PO editor would help in better maintaining the file, rather than going all Notepad on it.
Can the devs confirm this ?
Also, I stumbled upon this in se.po:
#: wp-admin/post.php:727
msgid “”
“<h3>WordPress bookmarklet</h3>\n”
“You can drag the following link to your links bar or add it to your “
“bookmarks and when you \”Uttrycka det\” it will open up a
(…)
msgstr “”
“<h3>WordPress bokm?rkesverktyg</h3>\n”
“Du kan dra och sl?pp f?ljand l?nk p? din browser, p? l?nkraden, eller spara den i “
“favoriter/bokm?rke. N?r du \”Press it\” ?ppnas ett popup
(…)
Didn’t you invert “Press it” and “Uttrycka det” here ? ??

In reply to: Localization: Help Needed!fatherofpip : regarding your question in https://wiki.www.ads-software.com/index.php/se.po :
“Questions arising during the .se translation:
One main one as yet, the use of ‘post’ and ‘article’
as noun and both ‘publish’ and ‘post’ used as verb.
If the devs have no issue with it I’ll be unifying
usage for a clearer translation for the Swedish text.”
I had the very same concern, but chose to translate both “post” and “article” into the same “billet” in fr.po (https://wiki.www.ads-software.com/index.php/fr.po), without asking as it seemed obvious enough to me. Same with “publish” and “post” which I translated into “publier”. Of course, if the WPTeam insists on having a distinction, I’ll correct my translations to separate meanings…
Note aux fran?ais qui lisent : ma traduction n’est pas définitive ni parfaite, et forcément sujette à débat. N’hésitez pas à émettre un avis! ??
rboren:
1) I’ll download poEdit and will link the .mo file near (or from) the .po file once it’s done (not before this week-end), but we have to make sure the .po files are on the wiki in order to allow reviewing from other people.
2) What should we as package name in “Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n” ? “WordPress 1.2” ? Same for the few first lines of the file.
3) Is the POT file in its final stage ? ??
