In reply to: [Relevanssi - A Better Search] Page content not being indexedSorry, still don’t get what you mean about the editor.
Have disabled every single plugin and still the same result.
I feel it may be more useful if I could paste the code of a page as it appears in the database here, but this wordpress form just strips everything out and doesn’t seem to have a way to paste in code.

In reply to: [Relevanssi - A Better Search] Page content not being indexedI’m sorry, I’m not sure what you mean by that. All of the pages (there are no posts) were made and saved with an editor

In reply to: [Relevanssi - A Better Search] Page content not being indexedThanks for getting back to me.
I’ve had a go at that.

The titlecalendar
In the database: (actually it doesn’t look quite like this, but when I paste it here all of the WP comments are stripped out)
We run a variety of events within Lochaber to help support and promote sustainable living. I tried changing the settings to index all custom fields and the “state of index” came back with exactly the same numbers.

In reply to: Turning off commentsThank you for your suggestions
I installed the “disable comments” plugin to disable comments on images. This did the trick. Why just “disabling all comments” in the main admin doesn’t do that, I don’t know.
I never cease to be amazed by the complexity / interdependencies of WordPress. A separate plugin is needed to do the tiniest little thing, so you end up with dozens of plugins. One of them breaks due to an update and the whole site goes down. Somebody really needs to start again from the beginning with WordPress (not me though!).Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Turning off commentsThanks. Hopefully that plugin will do the trick

In reply to: Turning off commentsHello @saniamohammadi
- themes / plugins etc are all up to date
- comments are definitely turned off
- I have one contact form with a captcha – it works as I’m not spammed through that. I don’t have any comment forms because there are no posts (only pages) and comments are turned off.
I’m thinking the easiest way might be to just delete / rename the page that the comments are sent through. Would that be comment.php?

In reply to: folders don’t existfixed now – I just had to upload an empty .htaccess file.
Thanks for your help.

In reply to: folders don’t existseems mod-rewrite is installed. I think the problem is the missing .htaccess file. Not sure why wordpress didn’t create this?

In reply to: folders don’t existLinux. I’ve asked my ISP about the mod and await a reply. I now recall that I’ve had a similar problem with perma links on another site on the server. Here’s the URL (substitute xx’s):
hxxp://www.permabusiness.com/
Still waiting for my client to set up an admin login for me so that I can actually get into it (he has changed the login that I set it up with)

In reply to: folders don’t existum, I think maybe my problem is that I don’t have mod_rewrite on my server. Assuming that I can’t get it installed, what’s the easiest workaround?
Think I do need an .htaccess file though for permalinks – if I call https://www.mywebsite.com/about/ in my browser and nothing is in that dir, then there’s nothing to do any redirection for me…

In reply to: folders don’t existSorry, don’t get this…. when my browser follows a link to https://www.mywebsite.com/about/ it goes to that folder and looks for a default file there. The folder isn’t there (I can see that this is the case when I ftp the site) and there is no file there, so 404 error – no other possible outcome. The only way that that link could call another file would be if there was a .htaccess file in the base directory that told it to do do. There isn’t. What now?
