Is the below correct? I’m a tad concerned that if I want to use this app to its full potential I’ll have to have 777 on my folders?

Actually just been on with ftp and had a look and it *looks* like only owner has write access to any of the files. That sound right?

I also have questions re this.

Am new to wordpress…. have set the ‘Display name publicly as’ field and when writing a post click on the html button and enter ‘This post was written by <?php the_author(); ?>’. Yet all that is displayed in the post is ‘This post was written by’.

What am i doing wrong?
