Answering to myself
It was due to plugin “Yet another stars rating”

To know how to solve this:
– I entered the FTP
– I renamed the plugins folder as ‘plugins2’
– I went to this url : https://www.abcargent.com/wp-admin/plugins.php – this should disable all plugins and you should not see any plugin available
– I renamed back the folder to ‘plugins’
– I entered again to the same url.
– Now all plugins are here again but disabled
– I enabled each plugin one by one

And finally found the one that would make everything fail. Once i click enable on this one, i get again the 500 error.

As said above, now my site goes much faster – W3TC is disabled.
Frederick are you part of the w3tc team?

My understanding is that W3TC is a very powerful tool – but kind of heavy. Maybe for my needs (a site with 100 UV a day on average) it is not required to have such a plugin…

Now im quiet happy with the speed of my site. Im building another site, and I also saw the same pattern – much slower with w3tc enabled. Well, I have to admit, maybe my config is the reason why it’s slow… but I tried at the time to change several things and it didnt have any impact whatsoever.

Yes, yesterday after posting my message, I disabled half of my plugins (and indeed saw a huge increase in my loading time). I laos changed my theme, to pick up a more performant one.
I don’t have that much traffic at the moment anyway – on average 100 visits a day, some days 1000 but very unfrequently…
I’m planning to grow my audience, but is W3TC really that useful? I disabled it and my site was going much faster…

Though I don’t understand the problem with the markup errors and what they have to do with W3TC?
(Anyway, I think I’ll have to deactivate all plugins, revert to Twenty Twelve and see what is causing harm… )
