Seems I do as once logged in I was able to do https://{domain}/?rest_route=/wp/v2/posts and got a list of posts as a response

Do your users have customized roles?

Even with plugins off, any custom user roles will persist.

Hi Mika, I don’t think there’s anything that sets a custom role. The only installed plugins are:

– Activity Log
– Akismet Anti-Spam
– Coming Soon Page & Maintenance Mode by SeedProd
– GEO my WP
– Google Tag Manager for WordPress
– Wordfence Security
– WordPress Beta Tester
– Yoast SEO

One thing though is this was installed in August via Softaculous if that makes any difference.

Wordfence Security possibly can edit user roles? I’m not sure…

I can’t reproduce this one though which is very odd. The only other person who can had abnormal user roles.

OK – there was an update overnight but that didn’t fix it either. I could go back and start from scratch but I’m concerned that if I did have content and the site was live I’d be in a difficult situation ??

There have only been two reports for this, and the other was an API issue. :/ I’m only less concerned because of the lack of reproducibility.

We seems to be having the same issue. Deactivated plugins, reverted to simple theme… still having the issue.

Hi, so we’ve resolved it by updating / redirecting on the API plugin which was failing. For some reason that changed on this new release.

I have two WordPress sites, one (using WordFence) have the same issue, another (using WP Security) is fine :|.

@hcvg What API plugin is this?

Everyone, PLEASE check if you have any plugin messing with the JSON API.

Oh also check if you have Cloudflare turned on.

Hi Mika, we’re using the REST API Toolbox plugin but also have other customization.

OK – going through my sites I haven’t had a problem where a site has upgraded and I’ve then enabled Classic editor.

One site that had been installed but not worked on I did an update from 4.9.8 to v5 and then went into the default post, made a change and clicked Update and got the same “Updating failed” message. The site has 4 WordPress themes that are up to date Twenty Fifteen to Twenty Nineteen and all plugins are disabled.

In Chrome Console I am getting script failures with a 500 error ie:

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 () /wp-json/wp/v2/taxonomies?context=edit&_locale=user

I have just updated a site to wp 5 and am having the same issue. Unable to save any page changes. Only have a handful of plug-ins active.

I have have already updated around half of the dozen WP sites I manage and only one site so far has shown this issue.
