• Worked great until after install and testing, I re-activated the caching plugin we were using, WP Super Cache. After that it became impossible to log in, even though I had “wp-” pages as exceptions. By renaming the plugin folder outside of WordPress I was able to get back in.

    Hi Sharon,

sorry you were having issue with moving to SSL. Probably WP Super Cache redirected back to https://, causing a redirect loop. Can you give us a bit more information about what happened?

Before installing Really Simple SSL I turned off WP Super Cache caching. I followed the instructions to change http to https in .js and .css, etc. The SSL plugin worked perfectly. We have WooCommerce on the site and another plugin LearnDash so I tested purchasing a course and that worked properly. Finally, I turned back on WP Super Cache caching. After logging out I could not log in. To work around this I renamed the Super Cache plugin using FTP to deactivate it so I could log in. I deleted the cache and tried again, same problem. What happens is that when I log in with WP Super Caching set to caching on, I am not getting logged in. If I enter /wp-admin/ at the end of the site URL I am taken back to the login page. It’s not a critical issue, I’m just not using WP Super Cache.

    Ok, thanks for the info.

I can recommend wp Fastest Cache or WP Rocket as very good alternative caching plugins that do not have problems when the site changes to https.

Thanks, I will use those plugins in the future.
