Since the “external media” plugin connects via API to Google, this made me wonder:
I just received an email from Google regarding our API Javascript connector we set up for the plugin “External Media”.
It says:
“Our?announced plan?stated that support for the?Google Sign-In JavaScript?platform library will be deprecated after?March 31, 2023.?“
https://developers.googleblog.com/2021/08/gsi-jsweb-deprecation.html
What do you advise me to do? Will “external media” still work after March 31, when Google deprecates the JavaScript platform library?
Would be great if you could help.
Thanks in advance.
This plugin seems to have ceased development and no longer works which is a shame as I do not see any other plugin offering some of the same functionalities this has.
Developer – Are you able to update the plugin to work with current versions please?

Hey
Kind of a question but I might know the answer. When I want to add external image via URL to my media library is the final result IMPORT only? Because that’s what is happening on my local WP install.
this is the description on WordPress:
“Import files from or create external links from third-party services into WordPress Media Library (Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, Google Drive and any other external file from URL).”
I understand now that perhaps the plugin can only use external links from the services like Dropbox or Google Drive but that wasn’t clear from reading the description.
It seems that “external file from URL” can only import and not be displayed from remote. Which is too bad because I can also insert images from my remote site just using html img tag.
Please advise. Thank you.
]]>Hi,
after lots of back and forth with updating to the latest version, the current version 1.34 is still not working for us.
We can not get any images uploaded from Google drive.
All seems to work as usual, just when we press the upload button nothing happens.
So we switched back to version 1.30 and all things are working perfectly.
Would be great if you could look into it one more time, please.
]]>Hello,
I’m trying to get External Media to work so I can import photos from a Google Drive account. I followed your link from an earlier support topic to google instructions for verification.
Google says I must verify my app, but I’m not writing an app. If I pretend that my website is the app, I can get as far as selecting the scope(s) for my supposed app. I have NO IDEA what scopes the External Media plugin needs, or if it is my website that needs scopes. ?? Google says I can check my “script” to find out what scopes it needs. Does “script” mean your plugin code and I need to supply that to google?
Can you please tell me what scopes to add so I can make this work?
Thank you,
Kathy
It looks like Google had added a feature to puts new apps in testing mode.
When I click on the “Import from google drive” button, I am asked to choose my google account to log in.
Than I get this error:
The developer hasn’t given you access to this app. It’s currently being tested and it hasn’t been verified by Google. If you think you should have access, contact the developer ([email protected]).
I can’t find the setting in Google Dev to publish it live. Any suggestions?
]]>When I go to paste in an external url it just hangs and doesn’t load up an image. On a windows pc I can paste the link in with the default plugin, so this kind of renders the plugin useless. However, I need this function to be available on the mac too which is why I have installed this plugin, as it will save me a lot of time.
]]>Hi I cannot get the google drive to import to my site.
I used your plug in on my test site and it imports fine from the test site and test google drive (even with video!)
However I had tried to get it to work on the main site and it lets me access the google drive but then gets stuck trying to load the image to the wordpress media library.
I have no idea what I need to do because it works on the test site but not where i actually need it and i bought the premium plugin for the main site too!
]]>Dear Developper,
would you PLEASE be so kind to give a step by step description how to set Onedrive up on Azure. I did every thing you said on your Minidescription BUT Set Treat application as a public client to Yes. Where to do this????
I am not even close to being a web developer so you’re going to have to explain this to me like I’m five. I’m trying to use the External Media Plugin to link to OneDrive. I think I’m following the directions, but it says the URL is invalid because it can’t contain a query string. I’m assuming that means that I need to change something in the URL, but I’m not sure what to change. I already resolved one error, with the https://, but I don’t know what it’s wanting from me now. I can send screenshots if needed.
This is the URL copied straight from the Plugin Settings page in wordpress.

Hello, could you help me please? Using this plugin I still will need to optimized the photos or not? I am talking about size. I have quite a lot of heavy photos on my GDrive. Do I have to reduce the size before or with this plugin I do not have to do this and it will notaffect the speed of the website as photos are storage not on the server?
Thank you.

]]>Hello i have done all the steps to connect this plugin to my google cloud account which was succesful, but on import, the files imported have a constant size of 952B, the images break and the videos show media file not supported, please how do i solve this issue?
]]>Hi Minnur
First of all, this is a really cool plugin. However, after an update back in december 2019, I’m having some trouble uploading files/using files that are uploaded.
First of all, google picker api and google drive api were installed and enabled.
Second, when I click add media on wordpress, and then click add external media, I am presented with an Oauth 2.0 consent page. I click consent successfully and the Picker shows the files on the Google Drive Account.
Everything looks fine except the Image thumbnails on the picker shows broken.
When I click on an image and import, the image gets loaded onto the site. The thumbnail shows in wordpress. I can even edit the thumbnail.
However when I insert image into post, I get a broken thumbnail, and the alt text displays instead of the image.
Please help!
]]>Hi,
Can you provide upload support for our media files from datadwell.com?
thanks,
Steve
The plugins description says that it will let you import images or link them via URL, but the FAQ says that only import works.
Which is it?
]]>Hello, i have been using the external media plugin for a while now and I have been using it to download videos regardless the size from any platform that i want, but until the recent update of the plugin and WordPress the multiple broken files of the video is first downloaded then the video is downloaded, the problem i am having is that the video is downloading multiple times instead of just once and broken videos are downloaded first, please can you help me fix this.
I attached an image of my media library here https://snipboard.io/k1qPVO.jpg you would find 2 broken videos initially downloaded, then the two complete videos downloaded
