• Just to say, auto update to 4.5.3 strips out menu items that have no link. I use these as ‘placeholders’ for drop down menus, so clicking menu item only opens drop down list, does not navigate to a page etc. a la bootstrap.

Simple solution add # , eg https://# to empty/placeholder menu items.

Interesting, how were you able to create those menu items before?

For context, we’ve been suggesting that folks create empty menu items as a custom link with just # as the URL for years, ever since the custom menu system was introduced.

Actually I probably did have https://# or # as URL before . That’s my usual practice. The update strip happened on 2 (almost exact) copies of the same install, one on remote server, one on local, so it was definitely the upgrade caused issues.

Very odd, it didn’t do that any of my sites using the same method. ??

What’s the name of the theme?

    Base theme: flat bootstrap https://en-gb.www.ads-software.com/themes/flat-bootstrap/

    Child : https://xtremelysocial.com/wordpress/developer/

As far as i understand theme converts standard front-end wordpress menu display code to standard bootstrap display code. But I don’t see how that would affect menu admin input/output or database storage.

thanks for your interest . I’ve got a couple of other sites using same theme/child that I manually update, if similar shenanigans there i’ll come back and report; otherwise i take it as further proof that coding just aint as logical as we believe it to be ..

Ah yes, please do let us know if the other sites have the same problem.

I don’t have enough time to test against the theme today, but I will try as soon as I can, and it will help to know if your other sites run into the same issue.

I am using twenty thirteen theme w child and I have the same problem.
    Any fix out there yet?
