• WordPress gurus unite:

I have an issue when a “bad” url is typed in the (browser of your choice) search address area. The visitor is directed to a blog gallery page.

    That’s random… hmm?

QUESTION: Why are “bad” urls not going to my 404 page?

More info: Newest WordPress version 3.3.1
    Theme: DeepFocus Elegant Themes (Child)

    URL: https://034ea0f.netsolhost.com/WordPress/
    (temp while under construction)

Bad URL (for testing – does not really exist):
    URL: https://034ea0f.netsolhost.com/WordPress/whynot404

    One more thing:
I recently changed my permalink structure to:
    /blog/%postname%-%post_id%/

Its the only change I’ve made besides the every day page and post creation tasks. Just throwing it out there in case someone identifies that as a tip to a fix.

Bottom line: I want any “bad” urls to go to the 404 page.

Thanks to anyone that can shed some light on the issue for me.

    Peace.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
