I created a blog beautychimes.com, when I go this site I get a page which says ‘This website is under construction page’. I am struggling to remove this page so I can see my real site.

After reading some of the previous solutions from this forum I renamed the index.html page to some other name but that gives me a 403 error. Please help.

  • Did you install WordPress using cPanel?

If so, is your site an addon domain?

Did you add your domain to the “Addon Domain” section of cPanel?

How long has your site been live? Sometimes it takes a few minutes for it to be live. If you have installed wordpress through softaculous then it should be up.

Thanks for your reply James. I did install WordPress using softaculous. The site has been live for more than 48 hrs. I still get the under construction page.

What is the URL that gives you the under construction page – I’d like to look at it?

That page is likely from your hosting company. What hosting company are you using?

It could be a problem related to the directory name into which you installed WordPress and how the domain pointer is set.

I’ll be up for a while, so please let me know that URL and I’ll see if I can help you with this.

Incidentally, when someone asks if you installed using “cPanel” they are mistakenly thinking that all hosting companies use the same user support software, they don’t. This can be confusing for new comers.

My hosting company, MyDomain.com uses vDeck to provide the same sort of functions that the cPanel product does – but there are differences in how you accomplish the same functions on each brand of hosting software.

Opps – I guess I’m not as awake as I thought I was — you gave the URL in the first line of the question — I’ll take a look at it …

I am not familiar with softaculous but let’s see if we can figure this out.

    Some questions”

1 – It appears you registered your domain name with DOMAINSHYPE.COM, is that correct?

2 – Did you buy a hosting plan from the same company?

If so, have you done something like what is shown on their page at https://support.bigrock.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/511/0/mapping-your-domain-name-to-your-hosting-package

I AM NOT SUGGESTING that you go do that procedure right now, I need some more information/answers first.

I’m just asking if you did anything like that on the domainshype.com site

    Bob

I just noticed that when I went to search the knowledge base on domainshype.com I wound up at https://support.bigrock.com/index.php?/Base/Search/Index

Just wanted you to know that we are talking about a possible company to company partnership or such here – no problem, just need to note it.

Thank for your reply BobNwp. The site address is https://www.beautychimes.com

I noticed that the site is up at https://www.beautychimes.com/wp I edited the wordpress installation details and removed the /wp from the URL it still goes to the construction page.

    Okay –

What you need to do is “point” your domain at the /wp directory.

That is done via the registration company’s software which – which might be cPanel or vDeck or some other such package they use.

If I needed to make such a change, I would login to my account at the company where I registered the domain, go to a window called Domain Central, and then find and click on the domain in the list of my domains.

There would then be an option to set the “pointer” for the domain and that is what I would change.

This has nothing to do with the nameservers or other things – it is simply a matter of telling the server software the directory in which you blog resides.

Log into you account, at I guess BigRock.com and look around at what sort of things you can set and change for the domain.

Don’t make any changes – just look around to see what is there.

There are two alternatives to getting the pointer set correctly to allow access to your block without having to use the URL with the wp directory.

1 – You could move the WordPress installation to the root directory of the domain

2 – you could create a “home page” with a link or even a redirect to the blog directory.

It would be far easier to find and set the pointer – or whatever BigRock’s software calls it. (Again – it looks like domainshype.com is the registrant but you actually have an account at BigRock — I’m doing a bit of guessing here based upon what I’ve seen there)

I noticed something else that will need to be resolved once the first problem is taken care of.

The page that you get if you go to the long URL (with \wp) is nothing was found – it should be showing the posts on the blog. What that page is actually saying is that there are no posts on the site.

But – over under Recent Posts, there is an entry for a post but the URL does not have the \wp directory reference.

Did you change the URL manually somewhere?

BUT LET’s hold off on that until we get rid of the construction page.

There is a 3rd alternative to get your installation in the \wp directory accessed via the short URL – https://www.beautychimes.com

You can update the .htaccess file to redirect requests for the root directory to the \wp directory.

That is detailed in the post at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory

It is not something that should be done lightly, screwing up the .htaccess file can cause other problems. But it is a way to fix this problem and it can be done safely and does not effect your installation of WP in any way which might cause problems when it is updated.

We can hold that option in reserve.

I’m going to run some windows updates on this system and will be unavailable for about 45 minutes to an hour – go ahead and post any updates and I’ll check here after I finish the updates. It is now 12:28 AM in the CDT time zone in the USA on Sunday, May 8, 2016

Thanks BobNwp. I had installed wordpress in the wrong directory. The problem is resolved now.

Really appreciate the time and effort you have put into this. Thanks again!

    You’re welecom.

Glad to have been of some help.

Site looks good. I posted a comment to your one and only posts, as things now stand.

    Another thing –

Create another user with the role of Editor. They will be able to post and such but won’t have full administrative capabilities.

You can read about roles and capabilities here I didn’t write that page, so don’t blame me that it is a bit disjointed ??

Reserve the administrator user for doing things to the blog, as a whole, for updates, etc. Post under a different user.

    Just a shade more secure.

Also, create another administrator user and delete the default one named “admin.”

    Again, glad I could help.

    Oh – something else —

Since you are going to allow anyone to post comments, you need spam control. Look at the Akismet plugin.

It is very widely used and is said to be very effective.

Something else – as to allowing anyone to register (an option through the “dashboard”) – you don’t do so now and I advice you never do. Spammers will fill up they blog with fake users, posts, and comments.
