My messages page question

Should there be a page https://{domain.com}/messages/ ? I’m not able to go to that page and I don’t see it in my wordpress pages.

The https://{domain.com}/messages/ page is an automatically generated archive page that lists all the messages the currently logged in user has received.

You can access this page my going to My Courses page and clicking the Messages button on top of the page.

If the Messages button is not showing up on the My Courses page, please add the Student Messages Button block to the My Courses page.

Is there anyway to regenerate the /messages/ archive page? When I click on the messages button the site is not able to generate the page and is getting timed out.

Would you make sure to create a page which includes the [sensei_user_messsages] shortcode, and let us know if you can now access either :

• /messages and/or
• /url-to-new-page-with-shortcode

When I Disable Private Messages from the Sensei settings and manually go to the …/messages page I do see the “[sensei_user_messsages]” shortcode displayed from the front end (the literal short code is displayed). But when I re-enable (uncheck Disable Private Messages) the page is getting timed out. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling Sensei and Pro, and Astra with no luck.

One thing that seemed to work is activating a different theme (Kandence) and the site is able to open the messages archive page with no issues, however, I’ve already committed to using Astra.

Ah. This does indicate a conflict of some sort with Astra. I just tried testing Sensei and Astra, but it crashed my site on WP versions 6.0.3 and 6.1.1, using PHP 7.4, 8.0, 8.1, and 8.2.

PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 18890752 bytes) in /srv/htdocs/wp-content/themes/astra/inc/blog/blog.php on line 501

Normally that would indicate I’m using too many plugins for the available memory (512M in my case) on my server, but I only have Sensei running, and 512M should be more than sufficient in most cases where you don’t have a big WooCommerce store or Sensei course list.

I also tried installing Elementor with no success at getting Astra to work. Switching to Avada, Divi, and other themes worked successfully, so I’m not quite sure what’s going on with Astra, at least on my site.

It’s possible there could be some issue with Astra which goes beyond the Sensei message functionality not working, so you may might also want to reach out to the developers. They should be able to give you some insight into what may be going on with your site.
