• I have been using the <base href tag in header.php, and it works great for converting all relative img and insite page links into absolute links universally throughout my blog but it’s also creating a problem.

I cannot add any links to other domains without it adding my own base URL to them, creating an invalid link. Is there an override tag I can use to disable the base href function for specific individual URLs?

  • Not that I’m aware of.

But you might want to seek out a forum oriented more towards “pure” web/(x)html as opposed to WP for a more informed answer.

    Such as codingforums.com?

I have always simply used a href=”../images, a href=”images, etc.. on static pages, but I choose to use base href in WP instead, because I wasn’t sure if the permalinks might cause a problem with relative links.

If you link to an external link (starting with https://) the base-href-tag in html is ignored.

Or did I get you wrong?

I discovered the problem. It’s the AXS integration plugin. Disabling it solved the problem.

Maybe I need to get a newer version that doesn’t cause this problem?

I made a new discovery. Unchecking “Automatically track offsite links (attempts to track offsite links in comments and posts)” in Options > AXS Integration fixed the problem.
