I’ve compared two pages with the same content but different image sizes. The page with smaller image sizes actually loaded slower…

    Large image size: https://gtmetrix.com/reports/raleighrep.com/qLJxSIYi
    Small image size: https://gtmetrix.com/reports/raleighrep.com/9oUiZ5Cf

The problem isn’t the size of the images, it’s the HUGE number of images you’re displaying in the slider. People’s attention spans aren’t that long…try to keep the number of slider images to 10 or less, and double the amount of time each one is displayed.

I’ve seen sliders that allow you to set up groups of images, and the image groups are randomly chosen for the slider on each page load. If your slider supports this capability, give some thought to using it.

Almost forgot…your site uses https:// and not https://. Using https:// for your domain URL when checking in GTMetrix will eliminate the “F” score for landing page redirects.

On the pages in my comment, I need all 30-50 images to showcase an entire home.

    Hey @diondesigns,

So, I can’t do anything about the images for now. I’ve looked into converting to https:// but I’m getting no clear answers on how to do it. I installed a plugin called “Really Simple SSL” but I have no idea if it did anything. Can you provide insight on this?

Here’s what I mean about the URL: https://gtmetrix.com/reports/raleighrep.com/juMGiOJ1

The “F” score for landing page redirects is gone because I specified https:// in your URL — which you should do as well.

If you insist on keeping 50 full-size images in a slider on your homepage, you will always have bad page load times and GTMetrix scores.

If you want to retain that many images, then please give some thought to creating 640×480 thumbnails of the images and using those in the slider. That would probably cut your page load time in half. You could display the full-size images on the pages for the individual homes.

    Hey Dion,

How do I ensure that when I share the simple line “raleighrep.com” with clients, that it will automatically load as https?
